We are delighted to present the Geoffrey Middle Collection as the centrepiece of the Bennett and Dykes May 2025 Fine Asian Art sale from Lot 101 to Lot 320. 

The collection main focus is on early ceramics, between the Five Dynasties and the Yuan period. Here the Geoffrey Middle collection is strongest, allowing in itself a comprehensive scholarly survey of the field. Particular highlights among the Tang wares include: a good white glazed spittoon; a blue glazed stoneware jar; and a rare Yaozhou black glazed carved ewer. In Song wares the collection includes a Yaozhou celadon rice measure jar; a large Ding whiteware bowl; a good Ding dish carved with lotus; and a lovely Longquan celadon tripod washer, to name but a few from a broad selection of stars.

The sale will further include a wide range of Chinese ceramics and works of art from various owners, including other significant Song ceramics, a private collection of Buddhist bronzes and thangkas, and other highlights, including a finely decorated ruby back Canton enamel dish. 

The Bennett & Dykes sale includes a good private collection of jewellery and jade, which is the property of a lady, and includes a gorgeous multi gem set giardiniere style bracelet, along with good pearls and corals.
Other properties include some great 1960s and 1970s pieces signed by English designers, notably Andrew Grima and Charles de Temple.

The Antiquities section includes a splendid group of Classical and Near Eastern objects from the collection of Gabriele and Wolfgang Leiner, German authors known for their collaborative works on cultural and historical topics, mostly collected in the mid 20th century and extensively documented.

Other properties include interesting groups of ancient and later Near Eastern jewellery, sculpture and textiles, and fascinating pre columbian artefacts.
